Terms of service · Updated November 5, 2026
The terms, in plain words
1. The service
Dear Later lets you write letters, add photos and voice notes, and choose a future date when they are delivered by email to the people you name. You need to be 18 or older to start a capsule. Anyone you invite can write without an account.
2. Your links are your keys
There are no passwords. The private link we email you manages the capsule, the invite link lets people write, and each recipient gets their own link on the day. Keep them private. We cannot tell who is using a link.
3. What you may not send
Nothing that harasses, threatens, deceives or impersonates someone, nothing illegal, and nothing you do not have the right to share. Recipients can decline a capsule without seeing it. We may remove a capsule that breaks these rules.
4. Prices and payment
Capsules that open within a year are free, as is a text-only letter from one writer that opens within 25 years. A Keepsake is $6 and a Gathering is $15, each paid once, in US dollars, before the capsule is sealed. The payment covers keeping the capsule until its date. Because the price pays for storage that has already begun, it is not refundable once the capsule is sealed. If something goes wrong on our side, contact us and we will make it right.
5. Delivery
We send the opening-day email to every address listed for each recipient, in the capsule's time zone. We cannot control whether an address still works years from now, so keep addresses up to date from your private link. Recipients can open their capsule from their link for as long as the service runs.
6. If we close
If Dear Later has to shut down, we will give organizers at least 60 days' notice and deliver every capsule to its recipients before we close, as described in our promise. This is the remedy we offer; we cannot guarantee that any service will exist for decades.
7. Responsibility
We take care to keep capsules safe and deliver them on time, but the service is provided as it is, and to the extent the law allows, our liability for any capsule is limited to the amount you paid for it. Nothing here limits rights you have under consumer law where you live.
8. Changes
If we change these terms, we will post the new version here with its date. Changes do not reduce what you already paid for.
9. Who we are
Dear Later is run by DOPPO, a small company being set up in Tochigi, Japan. Questions, refunds or problems: use our contact page.
